- Bónus Grandi. Cheapest food. Closes 21:00, checked by Victoria in October 2026. Fiskislóð, Grandi. 1.3 km, roughly 18 minutes on foot, 7 by car.
- Bónus Skipholt. Cheapest food. Closes 22:00, checked by Victoria in October 2026. Skipholt 37. 1.6 km, roughly 20 minutes on foot.
- Krónan. Slightly pricier than Bónus. Closes 21:00. Háteigsvegur 20. 1.5 km, roughly 18 minutes on foot.
- Nettó Hallveigarstígur. Opens 07:30 and runs to midnight. The latest closing proper supermarket downtown. Hallveigarstígur 1. 550 m, roughly 7 minutes on foot.
- Hagkaup Skeifan. Widest range, biggest lactose free, gluten free and vegan shelves. Most branches close at midnight, this one is sometimes reported later. Call to confirm. Skeifan 15. 3.5 km, roughly 10 minutes by car, 45 on foot.
- 10-11 Laugavegur. 24 hours: pizza slices and hot dogs late (fresh pizza made until about 04:00). Ready meals can be microwaved at the counter. Costs clearly more. Laugavegur 116. 1.2 km, roughly 15 minutes on foot.
- 10-11 Austurstræti. The downtown one, 24 hours. The Sbarro counter inside makes fresh pizza until about 04:00, hot dogs and microwaved ready meals otherwise. Austurstræti 17. 150 m, roughly 2 minutes on foot.
- N1 and Orkan petrol stations. Open late or all night. Snacks, drinks, hot dogs and basics when everything else has closed. All over town. Several within a short drive.
Bakeries in central Reykjavík
- Brauð & Co. Cinnamon buns. Opens 07:00, sells out by late morning. Frakkastígur 16. 750 m, roughly 9 minutes on foot.
- Sandholt. Proper bread, pastries, tables to sit at. Laugavegur 36. 500 m, roughly 6 minutes on foot.
- Deig. Cheap doughnuts and coffee. Tryggvagata 18. 400 m, roughly 5 minutes on foot.
- Supermarket bakery counters. The same idea for a third of the price. Every supermarket also sells rúgbrauð, the dense dark rye. Krónan, Hagkaup, Bónus. Several within a walk.
Food halls and places that suit most diets
- Hlemmur Mathöll. Food hall at the top of Laugavegur. Many stalls under one roof, good when the group cannot agree. Laugavegur 107, main bus hub. 1 km, roughly 12 minutes on foot.
- Pósthús Food Hall. Small food hall in the old post office, right downtown. Pósthússtræti 5. 250 m, roughly 3 minutes on foot.
- Hafnartorg Gallery. Newer food hall area by the old harbour, several restaurants in one building. Geirsgata, by the harbour. 600 m, roughly 7 minutes on foot.
- Grandi Mathöll. Food hall in the Grandi harbour area. Street food stalls, good fish and chips. Grandi, by the old harbour. 1.5 km, roughly 20 minutes on foot, 8 by car.
- Gróa. Vegan and gluten free deli and café. Vegan lasagna, kimchi grilled cheese. Tryggvagata 26, by Kolaportið. 300 m, roughly 4 minutes on foot.
- Supermarket free from shelf. Lactose free, oat milk, gluten free. Clearly labelled. Bónus, Krónan, Hagkaup. Several within a walk.
- Bæjarins Beztu. Hot dog stand. Cheap, fast, open late. Tryggvagata 1, by the harbour. 300 m, roughly 4 minutes on foot.
Where to buy a SIM card or eSIM in Reykjavík
- eSIM bought online. Fastest option if your phone supports eSIM. No shop visit at all. On your phone, ideally before you land. No travel needed.
- Supermarkets, petrol stations, 10-11. Prepaid tourist SIMs and top-ups. No phone shop needed. All over town. Several within a walk.
- Síminn. Other easy prepaid and eSIM option. Also in Smáralind. Kringlan mall, Kringlan 4-12. 3 km, roughly 8 minutes by car, 20 by bus.
- Nova store. Only if your SIM or line has a problem. You do not need it to buy a SIM. Lágmúli 9. 2.5 km, roughly 8 minutes by car, 25 by bus.
- Coverage and offline maps. Coverage is solid along the ring road and around towns, thin in the highlands and some fjords. Download offline maps before you leave the capital. Anywhere. No travel needed.
Where to buy a plug adapter in Reykjavík
- Elko Grandi. Closest full electronics shop. Adapters, cables, chargers. Fiskislóð 15, Grandi. 2 km, roughly 25 minutes on foot, 8 by car.
- Elko at Keflavík airport. Easiest place to buy an adapter if you have not left the airport yet. In the arrivals area. At the airport, before you drive to town.
- 10-11, Krambúðin, petrol stations. Travel adapters, open late or all night. All over town. Several within a walk.
- Hotel reception. Most keep a drawer of adapters and lend them free. Ask first. Iceland uses the European two round pin plug at 230V, and phone or laptop chargers need only the adapter. Where you are staying. Downstairs.
Winter clothing and outdoor gear shops
- 66°North. Icelandic outdoor brand. Proper winter jackets, waterproofs, thermals. Premium prices, built for this weather. Bankastræti 5. 250 m, roughly 3 minutes on foot.
- 66°North Outlet. Same brand, past season stock at lower prices. Not walkable, take a car or taxi. Faxafeni 12. 4 km, roughly 10 minutes by car.
- Icewear. Wool sweaters, thermal layers, rain gear, hats and gloves. Mid range prices, several shops downtown. Laugavegur 91. 800 m, roughly 10 minutes on foot.
- Fjallakofinn. Serious hiking and camping gear shop. Boots, crampons, sleeping bags, staff who actually hike. Hallarmúli 2. 3 km, roughly 10 minutes by car.
- Útilíf. Outdoor shop downtown. Jackets, base layers, boots, and honest advice on what you actually need. Smiðjustígur 6. 500 m, roughly 6 minutes on foot.
- Ellingsen. Iceland's oldest outdoor equipment store. Wool thermals, gloves, hiking and camping gear, fishing supplies. Local shop, not a tourist brand. Fiskislóð 1, Grandi, by the old harbour. 1.2 km, roughly 15 minutes on foot.
Buses and taxis in Reykjavík
- Strætó city bus. Pay in the Klappið app. No cash taken on board. Stops all over the capital area. Usually a few minutes on foot.
- Hopp taxi app. App-based taxi with a licensed local driver. No Icelandic ID needed. The app shows a price estimate before you book. In the app, Reykjavík and Keflavík airport. Comes to you.
- Hreyfill. Traditional taxi firm. Pay by card in the car. By phone or app. Comes to you. Phone 588 5522.
- BSR. Traditional taxi firm. Pay by card in the car. By phone or app. Comes to you. Phone 561 0000.
- Uber, Lyft, Bolt and Grab cars. There is no Uber, Lyft, Grab or Bolt car service here. Bolt in Reykjavík is rental e-scooters only. Not available in Iceland. Not applicable.

- Wash Laundromat. Self service, 07:00 to 22:00 daily. Card or coins. Machines take 10 kg. Grettisgata 3. 500 m, roughly 6 minutes on foot.
- Grandi area laundromat, new. A new self service laundromat recently opened in this area. Tap the address to see the exact location, and call ahead to confirm hours. Grandi, near the harbour. 2 km, roughly 20 minutes on foot, 8 by car.
- Eco-Campsite laundry. Washers and dryers next to Laugardalslaug. Good for campers and long stays. Laugardalur, by the pool. 4 km, roughly 40 minutes on foot, 10 by car.

The airport coach is the normal way. Book online the day before, and pick a departure about 3 hours before your flight. Two choices when booking:
- Hotel or guesthouse pickup. Your confirmation email names your numbered stop. Use that one.
- Board at the terminal. Easy if you are staying close by.
Coach buses stop only at numbered signs with pink and blue markers, never a blue city bus sign. Your nearest one is at busstop.is.

Only on a busy day in the city without a car. Tap for the math.

What it covers
8 city pools, 17 museums and attractions, Strætó city buses and the Viðey ferry.
The break even
One pool visit (1,500 ISK), one or two museums and a few bus rides across town is roughly 24 hours of card value. Check each museum's own price before you decide.
Who should not buy it
- You have a rental car
- You stay downtown and walk everywhere
- For children: under 18s get into the included museums free with any adult card
- You want the airport bus, Sky Lagoon or Blue Lagoon: none are included
Buying online gives you a voucher. You still swap it for a physical card at a pickup point. The time starts when you first use it.
